AI
We have a passionate team of real humans working behind the scenes to produce our in-house content. Our animations and English lessons are made by humans. We’ll strive to keep the city of Mayham an AI-free zone for as long as humanly possible.
Themes
We provide fun stories, lessons and study guides to help young people from the ages of 6-16 with reading and revision. We focus on English literature, language, speaking and listening. With the exception of set texts for secondary school exams, our content is suitable for all ages. On the whole we avoid mention of gender, religion, romance, violence or politics; but these themes may appear in third-party literary works or the children’s own writing. Whenever possible we celebrate all people, the whole planet and wholesome activities.
Disclaimer
The Bellas are a fictional family loosely based on eight real people who have given permission for their names and likenesses to be used. However that is where the similarities end. Our adventures are mainly set in a fictional city called Mayham. Supporting characters and storylines are also fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons or to actual events, is coincidental. All photos and videos of real children on our pages are professional stock images for public use. We do not publish images of any of our users, or knowingly publish AI-generated photos.
Content
Children are at the heart of everything we do. All our content is vetted, age-appropriate and educational. We may request permission from parents to announce the name, age and school of child who has won a competition or successfully submitted a story. Our exam study guides focus on the British curriculum. Although we feature the AQA examining board, our exam tips can use used by all students. AQA is not a sponsor or affiliate of this platform.
Copyright
We produce original stories and content, sometimes including short excerpts from previously published works. In cases where the excerpts are still within copyright, we adhere to fair use laws. Our stories, animations and study guides are for educational purposes. They may be used by young people, homeschooling parents, tutors, teachers or in schools. However, they may not be reproduced (either in part or whole) or resold. We also run a non-profit mentoring and publishing house for young writers - our Scribe Tribe. Parental consent is obtained for each literary work we publish. All proceeds from book sales help to fund the project and support other young writers.
Owners
The Bellas might live in a fictional world, but this platform is an independent, real-life, family-run business. Two families, in fact. It is the collaborative effort of both the author, the animator and their offspring. Author Janet Peters is a baby-boomer teacher, examiner, mother, grandmother and the inspiration for British Nana. While animator Damian Winter is a Generation X father and the voice of Mr Bella. Both families have a combined total of 88 years in mainstream British education, media, publishing and of course, parenting! Their mission is to teach, inspire and empower young humans. None of the logos, brands, books or products mentioned in the series are sponsored. Since we have no scary investors or financial henchmen, your donations are greatly appreciated.
Legal
Although our platform has a global reach, our services are governed by and operated in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. We may revise our policies to reflect changes in the law, our practices or future projects. By using this online platform, you understand that we operate in accordance with English law, not the law of any other nation. Please review this page periodically to keep up to date with our most current policies and practices.
Privacy
We do not request, collect or store personal information which may identify a child or their whereabouts; except in the case of competition winners. In the case of competition winners, we obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before making any real names, ages or locations public. Parents can also contact us to find out what information we have on file and how we plan to use it; or request we delete it. In addition, we do not request, collect or store the following: educational or health records, photographs, biometric data, addresses or phone numbers. If in the future, we do collect, use or disclose personal information from a child, we will endeavour to obtain a parent or legal guardian's consent before doing so or otherwise comply with the law.
Safeguarding
We are committed to creating a safe and secure environment with family-friendly content. We do not collect photographs and will not publicly identify your child, unless we have an adult’s consent. We are an online service overseen by a female teacher and all-female student support team, with up to date enhanced police checks. We regularly remind our young followers to ask a parent or guardian before contacting us by email, whatsapp or phone. All online or phone interactions with children are limited to English studies. No child’s data is stored for more than a few weeks - and only for competitions and literary submissions. Please note that we are not liable for how third parties (for example: schools or parents) use our content.
